GoodLife made club-wide benefits easier to compare.

Planet Fitness wins for a customer seeking straightforward home-club access. Its $15 monthly Classic card disclosed the $49 enrolment fee, $49 annual fee and no-commitment term before selection. GoodLife’s $42.99 biweekly Ultimate plan cost much more but included all Canadian clubs, group classes, towel service, membership freezes and On-Demand Plus. GoodLife’s checkout supplied the stronger order summary; Planet Fitness supplied the stronger empty-form focus recovery. The prices are not directly comparable until monthly and biweekly cadence, first-year fees and access are normalised.

Jump toClubPlansFeesRecoveryPerformanceExpert reviewPriorities

GoodLife required an explicit two-stage club confirmation

GoodLife’s membership page began with a Home Club decision. Searching 137 Yonge Street returned the correct Toronto club at zero kilometres. The first Select action changed the card to “Selected”; a second “confirm & continue” action was then required before the main page changed to Toronto and exposed the location’s three plans. The distinction worked, but the two actions described one decision and made completion easier to miss.

The correct club was visibly selected, but a separate confirmation was still needed to apply it.

Planet Fitness’s public College Park page already anchored the membership cards to 444 Yonge Street. The club address, phone number, open status and membership section were available on the same page, so no separate location state had to be resolved.

GoodLife sold breadth; Planet Fitness sold a clear basic tier

GoodLife’s Toronto club offered Performance at $59.99 biweekly, Ultimate at $42.99 and Premium at $40.99. Every plan included access to all GoodLife clubs across Canada. Performance added Hot Yoga, REGYMEN, Craft Boxing and HYROX; Ultimate included classes, towels, freezes and richer on-demand content; Premium concentrated on equipment and basic digital access.

GoodLife kept access and signature benefits on the cards, although the biweekly cadence makes monthly comparison less immediate. Open the Toronto 137 Yonge Street club.

Planet Fitness offered PF Black Card at $29.99 monthly and Classic at $15. Black Card allowed any club and a guest, plus spa-style benefits; Classic covered the home club, app workouts, training and Wi-Fi. The smaller plan set and monthly cadence reduced mental arithmetic.

Planet Fitness exposed recurring price, enrolment fee, annual fee and commitment on each plan card. Open the tested club.

Both disclosed fees early, but GoodLife reconciled today’s charge better

GoodLife’s selected Ultimate plan advertised a promotional $0 join fee. At personal details, its order summary added a $3.07 prorated billing fee and $5.99 HST to the $42.99 biweekly amount, producing $52.05 due today. Keeping “due biweekly” and “due today” together made the first charge understandable.

GoodLife reconciled the recurring price, proration, tax and immediate total before payment.

Planet Fitness showed the $49 annual fee and $49 Classic enrolment fee directly on the club card, alongside “No Commitment.” Black Card reduced enrolment to $1 but raised the monthly amount to $29.99. The annual charge still requires first-year arithmetic, yet it was not hidden behind selection.

Round winner / Planet Fitness

For basic home-club access, the recurring price and compulsory fees were easier to identify before personal details.

GoodLife wrote the stronger summary; Planet Fitness moved focus correctly

GoodLife’s empty Continue attempt created a linked “These elements need your attention” summary and specific inline messages for identity, contact, address and emergency-contact fields. The summary is useful, but focus remained on the custom Continue button rather than moving to the summary or first invalid field.

Planet Fitness marked each missing field with “This field is required” and moved focus to First Name. Its email and SMS marketing checkboxes were visible and unselected. The messages were repetitive, but the focus handoff made the recovery path predictable.

Planet Fitness identified every missing field and moved focus to the first one.

Both field records met all three Core Web Vitals thresholds

GoodLife / exact membership page1.80sLCP · good113msINP · good0.01CLS · good

Planet Fitness / whole origin1.19sLCP · good173msINP · good0.00CLS · good

These p75 phone Chrome UX Report records cover GoodLife’s exact membership page and qualifying pages across Planet Fitness Canada’s public origin from 29 August to 25 September 2026.
