Priceline lost the selected store in the cart.

Chemist Warehouse wins decisively. It sold the identical 473mL cleanser for $15.59, found a Melbourne store, described free collection as typically ready within four hours and reached guest details. Priceline found the same item at $25.99 and confirmed Collins Arcade availability, but the cart then reverted to “Set your location,” displayed an endless “Please hold on” message and disabled Checkout. Re-entering the fulfilment choice did not restore progress. That reproducible loss of valid state is the central UX failure—not a testing limitation.

Jump toProductLocationCartRecoveryPerformanceExpert reviewPriorities

The same bottle exposed a large price gap

Both product pages named the brand, cleanser, 473mL size and normal-to-dry-skin purpose. Chemist Warehouse’s $15.59 price sat beside a $10.40 saving from the displayed $25.99 RRP. Priceline charged $25.99. No loyalty price or multi-buy condition was needed to obtain either observed amount.

Chemist Warehouse kept identity, price, saving and the stock-location action in one clear product panel. Open the tested product.

Chemist Warehouse made location recovery visible

Entering the invalid postcode 9999 on Chemist Warehouse produced “No suburbs found.” Replacing it with Melbourne 3000 exposed nearby stores; Chemist Warehouse Melbourne showed the item in stock and free click and collect, typically ready in four hours. The old error disappeared and the corrected location carried into the cart.

The corrected location produced concrete stock and collection timing rather than a generic availability claim.

Priceline’s location modal reacted differently: 9999 produced no visible explanation. A valid Melbourne search then allowed Collins Arcade to be selected and the product page changed to available. That looked successful until the next step.

Priceline discarded the state it had just confirmed

After Add to cart, Priceline no longer showed Collins Arcade. The cart said “Your set location to Set your location,” displayed a spinner with “Please hold on while we gather your location details,” and separately demanded a postcode to check stock. Checkout stayed disabled even though the supported store and in-stock item had been selected through the visible product controls.

The cart contradicted the confirmed product-page state and offered no working path forward.

Round winner / Chemist Warehouse

The selected store persisted, the product stayed in stock and guest checkout reached required contact details.

One journey recovered; the other repeated the failure

Chemist Warehouse’s guest form responded to an empty continue attempt with specific required-field messages and moved attention to email. Marketing remained optional and unselected. Priceline was retried through the normal location and fulfilment controls; changing the visible delivery mode and returning to click and collect did not restore the selected store or enable Checkout. The product remained in the cart, so the failure was not inventory loss—it was state and recovery design.

Priceline’s public origin was slow and highly unstable on phones

Chemist Warehouse / exact product1.07sLCP · good246msINP · needs improvement0.00CLS · good

Priceline / whole origin3.52sLCP · needs improvement229msINP · needs improvement0.80CLS · poor

These p75 phone Chrome UX Report records cover Chemist Warehouse’s exact product URL and qualifying pages across Priceline’s public origin from 29 August to 25 September 2026.
