We are not affiliated with either platform or restaurant. This records the public journeys on 27 September 2026; prices, fees, promotions and delivery times can change.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"test\">The London delivery test<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uxa-test-brief\">\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item uxa-test-brief__item--task\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">01 \/ Task<\/span><p>Set SE1 7PB, open McDonald\u2019s Strand, configure a Medium Big Mac Meal with medium fries, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and no add-on, then inspect the full delivered total.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">02 \/ Deliveroo<\/span><p>\u00a39.09 meal, \u00a32 small-order fee, \u00a31 service fee and \u00a32.09 delivery: \u00a314.18 total. Estimated 20\u201335 minutes.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">03 \/ Just Eat<\/span><p>\u00a39.09 meal, \u00a32 small-order fee, \u00a30.99 service fee and \u00a31.39 delivery: \u00a313.47 total. Estimated 25\u201340 minutes.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">04 \/ Customer<\/span><p>Unsigned-in new customer, delivery as soon as available, prices in pounds sterling.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">05 \/ Safe stopping point<\/span><p>The mandatory sign-in or account-creation page. We entered no email, address or payment data and placed no order.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">06 \/ Conditions<\/span><p>Desktop Chrome fieldwork, exact-menu mobile PageSpeed and phone CrUX origin fallback where exact menu records were absent.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-uxa-verdict has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><p class=\"uxa-kicker wp-block-paragraph\">The 30-second result<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Just Eat was 71p cheaper and handled missing meal choices better. Deliveroo promised the faster window.<\/h2><p class=\"has-lead-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Just Eat wins this exact basket because it exposed the service-fee rule, prevented an incomplete meal from being added and reached a \u00a313.47 total. Deliveroo\u2019s \u00a314.18 total was equally clear once the basket existed, and its 20\u201335 minute estimate was five minutes faster at both ends. Neither platform allowed a guest checkout: both stopped at account access, and both inserted the same McDonald\u2019s school-delivery and allergen warning before that gate.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<nav class=\"uxa-article-nav\" aria-label=\"Article sections\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">Jump to<\/span><a href=\"#results\">Results<\/a><a href=\"#meal\">Meal<\/a><a href=\"#basket\">Basket<\/a><a href=\"#checkout\">Checkout<\/a><a href=\"#performance\">Performance<\/a><a href=\"#heuristics\">Expert review<\/a><a href=\"#changes\">Priorities<\/a><\/nav>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"results\">Deliveroo made browsing calmer; Just Eat repeated paid placements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deliveroo confirmed London SE1 7PB, then presented category shortcuts, filters and a \u201cNational favourites\u201d row with McDonald\u2019s at 15 minutes. The broader page said 1,665 restaurants were available. Its card hierarchy was visually quiet enough to find the known brand without a separate search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-uxa-screenshot\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uxrobot.ai\/ux-audits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/deliveroo-vs-just-eat-deliveroo-results.jpg\" alt=\"Deliveroo Waterloo Station restaurant results with category filters and national favourites\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Deliveroo combined broad filters with a direct route to the known restaurant. <a href=\"https:\/\/deliveroo.co.uk\/restaurants\/london\/waterloo-station\">Open the area page<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just Eat reported 1,407 places and put a useful warning above the list: \u201cFees apply, add to basket to see total price.\u201d McDonald\u2019s Strand appeared as Sponsored in several modules, including the opening results, Popular brands and Tasty offers. Sponsorship was labelled, but repetition still made the commercial priority dominate the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-uxa-screenshot\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uxrobot.ai\/ux-audits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/deliveroo-vs-just-eat-just-eat-results.jpg\" alt=\"Just Eat SE1 restaurant results showing Sponsored labels, delivery estimates and delivery fees\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Just Eat exposed fee and minimum-order signals early, but sponsored restaurants recurred across the same result page.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-uxa-round-winner has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><p class=\"uxa-kicker wp-block-paragraph\">Round winner \/ Deliveroo<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The known restaurant was easier to isolate without repeated sponsored copies competing for attention.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"meal\">The menus matched, but the recovery pattern did not<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both platforms priced the Medium Big Mac Meal at \u00a39.09 and presented the same three required groups: side, drink and meal add-on. Calories and upgrade prices were visible. Choosing medium fries, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and \u201cNo Thanks\u201d kept the base price unchanged on each service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Deliveroo, selecting Add before completing those groups left the meal open and focus on the Add button, but did not produce a visible error summary or move to the first missed group. Just Eat instead kept the action unavailable and displayed \u201cSee what you missed\u201d and \u201cMake sure you choose all your options for this item.\u201d Prevention was clearer than a silent failed action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-uxa-screenshot\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uxrobot.ai\/ux-audits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/deliveroo-vs-just-eat-just-eat-meal.jpg\" alt=\"Just Eat meal customisation modal with required and optional groups and an Add button\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Just Eat clearly separated required and optional groups and prevented an incomplete addition.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"basket\">Just Eat\u2019s lower delivery fee decided the total<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deliveroo\u2019s \u00a39.09 basket added \u00a32 for a small order, \u00a31 service and \u00a32.09 delivery, for \u00a314.18. Just Eat added the same \u00a32 small-order fee, an 11% service fee at its \u00a30.99 minimum and \u00a31.39 delivery, for \u00a313.47. Just Eat therefore cost 71p less for the same configured meal. Deliveroo estimated 20\u201335 minutes; Just Eat estimated 25\u201340.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-uxa-screenshot\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uxrobot.ai\/ux-audits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/deliveroo-vs-just-eat-just-eat-basket.jpg\" alt=\"Just Eat basket showing the Medium Big Mac Meal, item choices, fees and \u00a313.47 total\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Just Eat itemised the 11% service fee, small-order fee and delivery fee before checkout. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.just-eat.co.uk\/restaurants-mcdonalds-strand\/menu\">Open the tested menu<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both baskets also promoted extra food. Deliveroo opened a \u201cFancy anything else?\u201d interstitial after Go to checkout. Just Eat kept \u201cHave you seen\u2026\u201d suggestions inside the basket rather than requiring a separate dismissal. The inline pattern preserved the customer\u2019s sense of progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"checkout\">Two warnings and two mandatory accounts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before account access, both platforms displayed McDonald\u2019s rules about school delivery and allergens. Deliveroo separated its upsell and safety notice into two consecutive gates; Just Eat used the safety notice as the only modal. The warning content is consequential, but repeating modal decisions immediately before sign-in makes checkout feel further away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deliveroo then offered Facebook, Google, Apple or email. Just Eat offered the same providers and an email verification code. Neither exposed a guest path, so we stopped without supplying credentials. The configured meal and totals survived through each account gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-uxa-screenshot\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uxrobot.ai\/ux-audits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/deliveroo-vs-just-eat-deliveroo-sign-in.jpg\" alt=\"Deliveroo sign-up or login page offering social providers and email\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Deliveroo preserved the restaurant context but required an account before delivery and payment details could be inspected.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"performance\">The field data covers each origin, not these two menus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uxa-metric-grid\" aria-label=\"Deliveroo and Just Eat phone origin Core Web Vitals comparison\">\n    <div class=\"uxa-metric\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">Deliveroo \/ whole origin<\/span><strong>3.08s<\/strong><span>LCP \u00b7 needs improvement<\/span><strong>337ms<\/strong><span>INP \u00b7 needs improvement<\/span><strong>0.02<\/strong><span>CLS \u00b7 good<\/span><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-metric\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">Just Eat \/ whole origin<\/span><strong>2.16s<\/strong><span>LCP \u00b7 good<\/span><strong>368ms<\/strong><span>INP \u00b7 needs improvement<\/span><strong>0.19<\/strong><span>CLS \u00b7 needs improvement<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exact menu URLs returned no eligible phone CrUX record, so these p75 figures are the documented origin fallback for 29 August to 25 September 2026. They represent real Chrome users across each public origin and cannot prove that the result, menu or basket templates above caused a metric. Just Eat\u2019s origin-level layout movement and both origins\u2019 interaction delay merit template-level investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The configured mobile PageSpeed runs did cover the exact menu routes. Deliveroo scored 91 for accessibility and 96 for best practices, with unnamed dialog and button findings. Just Eat scored 93 and 96; its accessibility run identified a meta refresh, and its best-practices run logged console errors. Automated checks are investigation leads, not WCAG conformance claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"heuristics\">All ten Nielsen usability heuristics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uxa-principle-review\">\n    <div class=\"uxa-principle-review__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">01 \/ Visibility of system status<\/span><h3>Keep the total live.<\/h3><p>Both baskets showed configured items, fee lines and final amount.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-principle-review__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">02 \/ Match with the real world<\/span><h3>Name the food and fees plainly.<\/h3><p>Meal choices, calories, delivery and small-order fees were understandable.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-principle-review__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">03 \/ User control and freedom<\/span><h3>Avoid sequential gates.<\/h3><p>Deliveroo required separate upsell and safety decisions before sign-in.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-principle-review__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">04 \/ Consistency and standards<\/span><h3>Keep sponsorship proportionate.<\/h3><p>Just Eat repeated the same sponsored restaurant in several modules.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-principle-review__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">05 \/ Error prevention<\/span><h3>Prevent incomplete meals.<\/h3><p>Just Eat blocked Add and explained what was missing; The postcode represented an area rather than a supplied private residence. Restaurant supply, estimates and fees can change minute by minute.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We cannot say which platform delivers more reliably or converts better.
