We are not affiliated with either property marketplace. This records the public journeys on 25 September 2026.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"test\">The rental-search test<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uxa-test-brief\">\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item uxa-test-brief__item--task\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">01 \/ Task<\/span><p>Find a two-bedroom flat in Manchester at or below \u00a31,500 pcm, review the property facts and start a viewing enquiry.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">02 \/ Rightmove<\/span><p>928 results. We inspected Oxid House at \u00a31,375 pcm, furnished, available October, with a \u00a31,586 deposit.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">03 \/ Zoopla<\/span><p>631 results. We inspected Leftbank at \u00a31,500 pcm, furnished and available immediately.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">04 \/ Filters<\/span><p>Manchester, flats, exactly two bedrooms and a maximum monthly rent of \u00a31,500 on both sites.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">05 \/ Safe stopping point<\/span><p>The first enquiry or account form. We did not provide real contact details, complete CAPTCHA or contact an agent.<\/p><\/div>\n    <div class=\"uxa-test-brief__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">06 \/ Conditions<\/span><p>Desktop Chrome. Listings, prices, availability, agent descriptions and result counts can change quickly.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-uxa-verdict has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><p class=\"uxa-kicker wp-block-paragraph\">The 30-second result<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zoopla let a guest enquire. Rightmove put an account between interest and the agent.<\/h2><p class=\"has-lead-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Zoopla wins the end-to-end public journey because the renter could search, inspect a flat and reach a guest enquiry form without creating marketplace credentials. Rightmove offered more results, an efficient card layout and a better-reconciled selected price, but \u201cRequest details\u201d opened an account gate before the renter could see the actual enquiry fields. Zoopla\u2019s advantage is tempered by a serious listing inconsistency: its headline said \u00a31,500 pcm while the agent description said \u00a31,600 pcm.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<nav class=\"uxa-article-nav\" aria-label=\"Article sections\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">Jump to<\/span><a href=\"#search\">Search<\/a><a href=\"#results\">Results<\/a><a href=\"#detail\">Property detail<\/a><a href=\"#enquiry\">Enquiry<\/a><a href=\"#performance\">Performance<\/a><a href=\"#heuristics\">Expert review<\/a><a href=\"#changes\">Priorities<\/a><\/nav>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"search\">Both supported the same precise rental brief<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rightmove made the active brief visible in a compact filter bar: Manchester, \u201cThis area only\u201d, maximum \u00a31,500 pcm, minimum and maximum two bedrooms, and one property type. Zoopla used the same ingredients in larger labelled controls and also offered Map view, Create alert and Save at the top of the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The totals differed substantially: Rightmove reported 928 results and Zoopla 631. That does not establish market coverage because promoted, duplicated, recently changed and differently bounded listings can affect totals. The large composite image made the building and interior visible at once. Zoopla used a simpler two-column card with \u00a31,500 pcm and \u00a3346.15 per week, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, listing date, \u201cReduced\u201d and separate Call and Email actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-uxa-screenshot\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uxrobot.ai\/ux-audits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/zoopla-results.jpg\" alt=\"Zoopla Manchester rental results showing filters for two-bedroom flats under 1500 pounds and 631 results\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Zoopla\u2019s first card paired monthly and weekly prices with clear bedroom, bathroom and agent-contact actions. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoopla.co.uk\/to-rent\/flats\/2-bedrooms\/manchester\/?price_frequency=per_month&amp;price_max=1500&amp;q=Manchester\">Open the tested Zoopla search<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both sorted the first view for marketplace priorities rather than pure price: Rightmove used Newest Listed while placing a Featured Property first; Zoopla used Recommended with a Highlight card first. The commercial treatment was visible, but neither explained how promotion interacted with relevance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-uxa-round-winner has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><p class=\"uxa-kicker wp-block-paragraph\">Round edge \/ Zoopla<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The calmer card hierarchy made price, property facts and contact routes faster to scan.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"detail\">Rightmove\u2019s selected price stayed coherent; Zoopla\u2019s did not<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rightmove carried \u00a31,375 pcm from the card into the Oxid House detail page. It exposed \u00a3317 per week, a \u00a31,586 deposit, furnished status, October availability, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. \u201cNo floorplan\u201d was stated rather than leaving the absence ambiguous. Several secondary facts still said \u201cAsk agent\u201d, but the core cost was internally consistent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-uxa-screenshot\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uxrobot.ai\/ux-audits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/rightmove-detail.jpg\" alt=\"Rightmove detail page for Oxid House showing property photos and a rent of 1375 pounds per calendar month\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Rightmove preserved the \u00a31,375 headline price and exposed deposit, furnishing and availability in the letting details.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zoopla\u2019s Leftbank page had a strong top section: seven photos, Map, Street view, the \u00a31,500 headline, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, furnished status, immediate availability and the agent\u2019s Call and Email actions. Lower in the supplied description, however, the rent was stated as \u00a31,600 per calendar month. Zoopla also showed \u00a31,500 in price history and a \u00a31,731 deposit, leaving the user to decide which current rent was authoritative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-uxa-screenshot\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uxrobot.ai\/ux-audits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/zoopla-detail.jpg\" alt=\"Zoopla detail page for a Leftbank flat showing photos, a 1500 pound monthly rent and email agent action\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Zoopla made media and agent contact prominent, but the \u00a31,500 headline conflicted with \u00a31,600 inside the description.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-uxa-round-winner has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><p class=\"uxa-kicker wp-block-paragraph\">Round winner \/ Rightmove<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The selected rent, weekly equivalent and deposit formed a coherent cost story.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"enquiry\">Zoopla showed the real form; Rightmove showed registration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rightmove\u2019s \u201cRequest details\u201d control opened a side panel requiring an email address to sign in or create an account. Continue stayed disabled after \u201cnot-an-email\u201d, but no visible message explained the format problem in the captured state. The property remained visible behind the panel, so closing it would preserve context, yet the renter could not inspect the eventual enquiry requirements as a guest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-uxa-screenshot\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uxrobot.ai\/ux-audits\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/rightmove-account-gate.jpg\" alt=\"Rightmove property page with a side panel requiring sign in or account creation before requesting details\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u201cRequest details\u201d became an identity step before the renter could see or send the agent enquiry.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zoopla opened a guest form asking for full name, email and phone, with an optional message and a viewing-request checkbox. Submitting it empty produced specific inline messages for each required contact field and CAPTCHA. The selected property and agent stayed visible beside the form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The form\u2019s marketing control was less clear: \u201cI do not wish to know what Zoopla can do for me or hear about breaking property news\u201d requires the renter to opt out through a negatively phrased checkbox. Rightmove\u2019s record covers the public <code>\/property-to-rent\/find.html<\/code> path across query variations; Zoopla\u2019s available record covers its full public origin. The scopes are not identical and neither isolates the exact listing or enquiry form. Rightmove\u2019s 269ms INP needs improvement; the remaining values were inside the good thresholds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Current mobile PageSpeed checks through UX Robot\u2019s configured Google client returned home-page reports after the exact journey URLs produced no completed lab report. Rightmove scored 97 for accessibility and 96 for best practices; the run found a cookie-policy link distinguishable only by colour plus console and source-map issues. Zoopla scored 100 for both, while the performance diagnostics identified layout shifts, forced reflow, render-blocking CSS and unsized imagery. Automated checks are investigation leads, not WCAG conformance claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"heuristics\">All ten Nielsen usability heuristics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uxa-principle-review\">\n    <div class=\"uxa-principle-review__item\"><span class=\"uxa-kicker\">01 \/ Visibility of system status<\/span><h3>Keep filters, totals and enquiry state visible.<\/h3><p>Both preserved the search brief; We did not confirm availability, ask the agent which Zoopla rent was current, create a Rightmove account, complete CAPTCHA, send an enquiry or arrange a viewing. Result totals and ranking can change during the day.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We cannot say which marketplace produces more successful tenancies.
